# Buy credits and auto-reload

Any MAIA workspace can buy credits, on any plan. Purchased credits never expire. Auto-reload buys credits for you when the balance drops below a threshold, up to a monthly limit you set.

## What you end up with

Your balance goes up by the amount you paid. Purchased credits show as a dollar amount on the **Plan & usage** tab, and they never expire.

## Buy credits

> **Note:** Check which workspace you are in before you pay. Purchased credits stay with the workspace that bought them and cannot be moved to another.

1. Open your account and choose **Plan & usage**.
2. Pick $100, $250, or $1,000, or enter a custom amount of $5 or more.
3. Pay. MAIA opens checkout. A card you have used before is already filled in.
4. Wait for the payment to be confirmed. Your balance then updates in every open tab. You do not need to reload the page.

Three things to know before you pay:

- **Any member can buy.** Billing has no admin role.
- **Your bank may ask for verification.** No charge is made until you confirm. MAIA shows a notice, and you choose **Confirm payment** there.
- **A paid plan must be in good standing.** While a Pro plan is past due, unpaid, or ended, MAIA does not sell credits, and the purchased credits you hold wait until paid access resumes. See [Manage your plan](https://maia-analytics.com/docs/billing/manage-your-plan).

Purchased credits are spent after your monthly and promotional credits. See [Credits](https://maia-analytics.com/docs/billing/credits).

## Turn on auto-reload

Auto-reload buys credits when your balance reaches a threshold. It is off until you turn it on, and it works on every plan, Free included. It charges the card from your last purchase, so buy credits once before you turn it on.

> **Note:** Auto-reload charges your saved card without asking each time. The monthly limit is what caps it, so set one you are comfortable with.

1. Open your account and choose **Plan & usage**.
2. Choose the amount to buy each time: $100, $250, or $1,000.
3. Set the threshold. MAIA buys when your whole balance is at or below it, counting monthly, promotional, and purchased credits together.
4. Set the monthly limit. It is the most auto-reload may charge your card in one billing period, up to the ceiling shown beside the field. It must be at least the amount, or MAIA will not turn auto-reload on.
5. Turn auto-reload on. MAIA saves the settings and starts watching the balance.

To turn it off, switch it off on the same tab. MAIA keeps your settings for next time.

### An example

> **Note:** Amount $100, threshold $20, monthly limit $300. Your balance falls to $20, so MAIA charges your card $100 and the balance is $120. After three charges in one billing period, auto-reload has reached its limit. It waits for the reset date.

## When auto-reload stops

Auto-reload stops charging in these cases. The **Plan & usage** tab says which one applies.

| Case | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| The last charge was declined | Update your card |
| Your bank asked for verification | Choose **Confirm payment** |
| No card is saved | Add one |
| The monthly limit is below the amount | Raise the limit or lower the amount |
| The monthly limit is reached | Wait for the reset date, or raise the limit |
| A plan payment is overdue | Pay the open invoice. Auto-reload resumes once it is paid |
| You cancelled a paid plan | Nothing, unless you reactivate. Auto-reload then resumes with your saved settings |

## Receipts

Choose **Manage billing** on the **Plan & usage** tab. Cards and receipts are covered on [Manage your plan](https://maia-analytics.com/docs/billing/manage-your-plan).

## Limits

- **You pay first.** Work spends credits you already hold. MAIA never bills you afterward.
- **The monthly limit has a ceiling.** MAIA shows it beside the field.
